AAG Development Program Next Generation Aircraft Recovery System The Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) system incorporates turbo-electric power to capture tail hook-equipped aircraft that land on the deck of an aircraft carrier. This advanced technology will replace the current hydraulic arresting system, greatly enhancing overall performance. Benefits of the new system design include:
Curtiss-Wright is currently participating in the development and
delivery of the motor/generators as part of the Advanced Arresting Gear
System for the U.S. Navy. Production is currently underway for the first shipset of eight units for the CVN78 carrier with delivery scheduled by
the end of 2011. The system will be retrofit onto existing Nimitz class
carriers and forward-fit onto all future carriers. Complementary
technology for the ElectroMagnetic Aircraft Launching System (EMALS) is
being developed for all future aircraft carriers under a separate
program for which Curtiss-Wright is also a key supplier. |
