EM Gun Development Program
The Cornerstone of Future Combat Systems

An Electromagnetic (EM) Gun uses the force from the interaction of electric current and magnetic field to launch a projectile, versus a conventional gun, which accelerates a projectile with hot, high-pressure gas and explosives.  Curtiss-Wright is the prime contractor for development of one of the key components of an EM gun, the pulsed power supply (PPS) system.  The PPS creates and stores kinetic energy used to launch projectiles at high speed and velocities not possible with traditional chemical propellants.  Advantages include:

• Hyper velocity of projectile, which creates high lethality and target defeat
• Mission flexibility for a range of  velocities and simplified logistics
• Reduced weapon size
• Improved operator safety and reduced vulnerability - no stored explosives and reduced audible/visible signature
• Congressionally mandated MOA ensures cross services benefit

All service branches have requirements for EM weapons, including armored vehicles, marine vessels and forward-deployed field forces.
