Defense For more than a century, the businesses of Curtiss-Wright Flow Control have helped protect America with an expanding array of innovative technologies, products and solutions. It began in 1847, selling steam-powered pumps for Navy vessels. Our role in the skies can be traced to company founder Glenn Curtiss, whose technological innovations in naval aviation during the early 1900s paved the way for the air superiority that remains the backbone of America’s defenses. In the early 1950s, we helped design and build systems for the USS Nautilus, the world’s first nuclear powered submarine. Today our high-performance products can be found aboard every nuclear submarine and aircraft carrier commissioned by the U.S. Navy. Our partnership with the Navy continues as the leading supplier of mission-critical applications for Nimitz-class aircraft carriers and Virginia-class submarines, as well as the next generation CVN-78 Ford-class aircraft carriers. Looking forward, we are developing and supplying key subsystems as part of the Navy’s next generation carrier platform. Our energy storage rotor is a critical component of the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System that will replace the legacy steam catapult. Our innovative low inertia motor for the Advanced Arresting Gear enables the more efficient arrestment and recovery of aircraft on carrier decks. And we continue to support the entire naval fleet with leading edge pumping, propulsion and valve and control systems solutions. Our wide ranging experience in defense-related technologies has given us a unique appreciation of the enormous responsibilities inherent in serving this market. For example, our canned motor pumps must meet the most rigorous performance standards, operating 50 to 60 years without maintenance and where failure is simply not an option. Over the decades, our dedication and drive has allowed us to establish customer relationships which have resulted in generations of successful programs.
